1976 CB400F Rolling Restoration
« on: August 26, 2022, 06:15:33 PM »
I've been trying to find a decent CB400F for more than 20 years. It's nostalgia - my late brother had a 1976 model in Parakeet Yellow. His girlfriend had a Candy Antares Red 77 CB400F, which was my first regular rider when I graduated from dirt bikes to street bikes in the early 1980s.

Around here at least, any CB400F that comes up for sale at a fair price is sold in no time. But I got lucky last weekend and bought a 1976 in Parakeet Yellow. It has 36,000 miles and it's not 100% stock but it's close. Although it needs some TLC, it's in quite good shape overall and it runs like a new one.

I don't have the time these days for a full restoration like I did on my 1975 CB550K. But this one really doesn't need it. I'll work away at the cosmetics and enjoy riding it this fall. Then over the winter I'll do some of the bigger projects. It needs a head gasket and likely a few more things. Should be fun!

Congrats on finding one in good shape at a price you could afford. Luckily DSS likes these bikes and supports them with repro and OEM parts.
Look forward to more posts about your work on the bike and fun riding it.

Congrats on the find, you are lucky!
I love my Parakeet Yellow '76 and made the mistake of selling it once.
Luckily, the person I sold it to honored our agreement that I had first right of refusal should he ever decide to sell it.
So I am the 2nd and 4th owner of the bike. The first time I purchased it it had a little over 2k miles, now it's around 7k on the odo.
It always runs like a top and is a joy to ride.
Have fun with yours!

Glad you got it back. I can only hope mine will someday look as good as yours.

And a great idea to ask for first dibs from the new owner. So many of us wish we could get back an old bike from our past. Our son is talking about moving up from his 2016 CB500F, which is his first street bike. I'll have to suggest that he makes this arrangement when he sells. His CB is a fantastic bike and I know he'll someday want to have it back.
