Felt dust seals found on CB500K an CB550K Keihin carburetors
« on: August 07, 2022, 03:39:59 PM »
Hello:

Does anyone know the dimensions about the felt dust seals found on CB500K an CB550K Keihin carburetors? OD and ID?

For 6 mm choke shafts?

For 10mm throttle shafts?

Thanks

The ID is the same dimension as the shaft one which they are mounted (for 0 clearance).
Likewise, the OD is the same size as the hole in which they fit.
The thickness is normally 0.2mm more than the depth of the pocket in which they sit. If they are made too thcik, they will self-shread when used, so always err on the side of slightly less if you are making your own.

They are common cotton batting material. I used to make them (with scissors!) for the swingarms long ago until I found a company that would make me 500 at a time for less than 50 cents apiece.

When I did them on my 500t carbs I used these. Basically felt sticker for furniture.

Various sizes - I could find an OD that worked and just had to cut an ID which I drilled out with those hole punches from HF. Put em on a piece of ply wood and drilled through em. Press firm to make sure you get a nice clean cut.

Worked nicely.

Soon ditched the carbs as they are terrible but that’s a different story.

I believe it was Mike Nixon who was making sets of these
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
