That sounds like K0 carbs, you must be very careful screwing the tops on, and they are easy to cross thread especially when you add the rubber gaskets to the top. Most of them don't even have the gaskets.
Don,when it had the old(thin)rubber gasket in the top cap it was about an 1/8 of a turn better..
but now since I installed the fresh rubber gasket, those threads won't work anymore.
There is a big difference when the cap screws down tight on these compared to when it runs 'less tight'.. it pulls air from up top, when it should be pulling air through the rear inlet only.
The result is a poor running engine that doesn't idle well plus I can't adjust the pilot screw to get it to idle consistently.
This nice PD 66A Keihin stock carb is getting that set of fresh threads up top;I will be sure to prep both parts very well before using JB.The thing might not look as nice anymore with a bead of JB Weld around the base of the screw-down cap but that's what it's getting. I'll be sure to take my time and align everything properly and clean it all inside the bore so it's nice and smooth inside.
I'm waiting to hear from a buddy in W. PA. today who works full time on restoring fuel tanks for motorcycles(Moyer's Fuel Tank renu);he knows about fuel related stuff and he said he'll research it online and let me know if he sees a better product than JB Weld by today, otherwise tomorrow it's getting JB.
There's another fellow on a forum who recommended I rough-up(stiff,small wire brush?)around the threads, then use JB Weld around the threads & let it set-up for a bit then put just a little parrafin wax evenly into the threads of the top-cap then use the top cap to gently thread down onto the 'not too cured' JB Weld.. I don't think he's done this before, but it seems like a good idea..
