1976 CB550F reproduction main & sub wiring harness
« on: September 06, 2022, 02:57:46 PM »
Hello all. Forgive me if this has been posted and solved (that would make my life much easier) but I'm having trouble installing these.

I purchased the reproduction main and sub wire harnesses for the 1975-1977 CB550F off of 4into1. Many of the wire colors do not match the original harness. So I am having a lot of trouble trying to get these harness hooked up. I have no diagrams of the aftermarket harness. Can anyone help or can shed some light that has been through this? This was my father's bike and I've been working on it for several years. This is the last section for me to get it running again since 2015. I'm very desperately trying to bring this bike back to life. The bike also has a 4into1 repro throttle switch, 2 wire mini signals front and rear, 3 wire tail I believe, updated blade style fuse box, ricks regulator/rectifier and a Dyna S ignition. Thank you in advance for any help.

Without a diagram of the bits you have the only choice you have is use a multimeter to chase out the wires you have and compare them to the original diagram.
Eventualy helped out somebody with the repro switches some time ago but long distance electrical work via email is a realy bad idea from a stress point of viee

I've had good luck with the repro handlebar switches. And the one time I used a wiring harness on a K model, it was fine.

What exactly are you finding difficult to match up?

As always you need to identify your model and the market it originally was destined for. Yours was probably destined for the US: so an -A model. There has been a CB550F, a CB550F1 and a CB550F2. Honda doesn't talk years. You need to compare your engine- and framenumber to those listed in the first four pages of the Parts Lists. They're here: https://www.honda4fun.com/dwnload/Part-List/CB550/CB550-F-1975-Parts-List.pdf

https://www.honda4fun.com/dwnload/Part-List/CB550/CB550-F2-Parts-List.pdf
As soon as you know your exact model - it can be a CB550F-A, a CB550F1-A or a CB550F2-A - you can find the correct wiring diagram easily and yes, various markets had various wirings.

Yes, sorry.

1976 Honda CB550F in the US.

I'll go take a look at those numbers and see what I come up with.

These are my numbers. So it does appear it is an F2 bike.

The CB550F2 has no less than five different wiring diagrams. For a CB550F2-A the correct wiring diagram is on p.190 in: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lirtu1euydi0rol/Honda%20CB500_CB550%20%20Four%20Service%20Manual%20Ammended.pdf?dl=0

Is there ANYONE that has diagram/schematic of the reproduction main harness for the 75-77 550F? Surely this has been swapped many times. I contacted the seller and they were absolutely not concerned in the slightest about trying to get one for me. I feel this is the only way I will be able to get this together.

What connections are you having trouble with? Are NONE of the colors matching up?

you are asking for a diagram of a reproduction harness you purchased from 4into1?

What are you saying has been swapped many times?

And if your colors are this far off then give us some pictures please.

Yes, it would be nice if the reproduction harness has schematics with it to be able to match it with the original schematics. Some of the wire color are as factory but more than half are completely different color schemes. So it is not like factory ie brwn/blu to brwn/blu. You could have a brwn/blu matching to a orng/blk. I will try to take some pictures. The rep at 4into1 basically told me yeah sorry no one has brought it up before you must have a chopped factory harness or are a complete moron and youre welcome to send it back. In short. Absolutely no concern to try to provide one. So that was disappointing.

But I did fine someone on here luckily that has changed to this harness on a '76 CB550F as I have and he has contacted me back. He has agreed to send some further documentation/schematics/pics to assist and I'm grateful.

If you're saying he has the same harness and the same problem, please post your findings. You may help someone with the same issue some day.
