Question.  The front axle bearing spacer is "fused" to the axle due to, I assume, 47 years of dried grease.  I assume to remove the spacer and disassemble this I would use heat on the spacer and axle until I can get it off.

Open to tips and approaches to disassemble.

What Dave says.  Clean it up and use a puller.

Heat the collar with a propane torch. It will expand the diameter and fall off. Not too much heat.

Drop it in Metal Rescue then it will slide off. It’s rust (as mentioned).

Thanks Cal!  I hope all is well.

Thanks to all for the clarity it is rust and not grease.  I will proceed with sage counsel.

Because of your willingness to share experience and tips, I have now embarked on my 3rd cb500/550 project.
Fun and relaxing to be doing a little wrenching and a lot of disassembly, elbow grease cleaning, and reassembly again.
It's been said before, I almost enjoy the process more than riding them when they are done.

I used to work for a guy that always said “if this was simple, any idiot could do it”. Congrats!
