Trolling around the internet discovered one retailer in Canada with a GIVI screen for the Varadero. It’s about 3” taller than the original and a bit wider. Mounting it in the lower set of holes is perfect. The top of the screen is nicely below my line of sight, and it creates a really quiet space. No helmet buffeting and 50% quieter. Sweet.

It’s a great screen, but not perfect….. the two rubber trim bits that hide the mounting screws (the wing shaped bits on the lower part) are held in place by five raised rubber plugs that pushed tightly into the original screen. I needed to use a putty knife to gently pry it off. The holes in the GIVI screen line up perfectly, but are too large a diameter! I will have to use some goop to hold them in place.

The ST2 Brake Light Module is pi$$ing me off. No matter what I do with the mounting angle of the control box, those behind me report it’s only “flickering” the brake lamp randomly. Occasionally when accelerating away from a stop too. I’m convinced it’s faulty and one of their tech reps agreed today. One more attempt tomorrow and then I give up.

On a positive note, the tech rep said to let him know and he will send another one. I also put another 150 kilometers on the bike and absolutely love the ride. It’s got awesome “grunt”, the transmission and clutch are seamless, and the brakes are fabulous…..

John,a couple light taps on the brakes to work the OEM brake light is a good warning to those behind you;I wouldn't want to deal with an ST2 module like that.

A few months ago a good friend forgot to “tap”…. He was rear ended by a nice lady who “didn’t realize he was slowing down”, for a school zone no less! He was unhurt, but his bike needs lots of work. It’s such a simple concept, it should work.

1,060 kilometres over the weekend, with four other friends. Including +400 of gravel, logging roads and fire trails around  Algonquin Park and Barry’s Bay. Perfect blue skies and mild Fall weather. Kept it upright and by Sunday afternoon we were all trying pretty hard not to! Definitely keeping it!!

Saw moose and deer, well off the road! Set the suspension to “normal” and it was great! Needs a small set of bar risers, a bit too low when up on the pegs.

Did the GIVI windscreen work better than OEM in cross-winds ?

I dropped it to the lower position so it’s just below my line of sight. Perfect in all conditions. In truth, I think the bike looks better with the standard screen, but the GIVI works so well it’s staying right where it is.

Got my wife out of the hospital and back home today. Her shattered heel means I’m going to be pretty tied down the next 5-6 weeks. Built a ramp from the garage and set up the main floor for her. The Varadero looks pretty sad in the garage, covered in dust and grime from last weekend. That fun ride seems like a long time ago!

Sorry to hear that John, but if your homemaking and nursing skills approach your repair skills she is in good hands. Hope and expect she will have a speedy recovery.
My niece had a similar injury recently, falling from a loft ladder at a remote cabin in the woods. Backwoods Urgent Care was the only immediate care available. Back at home in town, the orthopedic doc removed the Backwoods cast for a proper cast, and got her into surgery a few days later. But she has a 5 and a 2 at home……

Kevin….. it’s just good to be back in our own digs. Fortunately she is more fit than any of us and will bounce back accordingly. My challenge will be to hold her back!

Had to do some shopping this am and the weather is glorious. Took the Varadero for a nice long loop. I like this bike! It will loaf along at +80 mph all day, with brakes to match.

4 weeks since my wife had her “flight” with the dog. She is recovering well. A few days ago we were back in St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. They checked over her broken cheek and fractured shoulder and gave her a new set of exercises. Apparently all the Dragon Boat Racing, paddle boarding, yoga, exercise classes etc., make for fast healing.

Xrayed the fractured heel, removed the cast and stitches and installed a new one. Walking boot by the end of the month.

I celebrated by going “grocery shopping” on the Varadero. Got lost and ended up doing a 100 mile loop. Oops!

Glad your wife is healing up well...
Imagine she surprised you in more than one way how she managed to follow doctor orders and become self sufficient...
She did follow Dr orders mostly, right?

Pain meds are good, when used at the minimum amount. My wife also got off hers early after back surgery (very successful for her back!). She had to go back on a little but then got off totally. Good move, she was up and back in her garden very quickly. And, bonus, we could ride the K3!
