20.000km is not much if compared to cars.
I think my car has 60.000km as recommended.

I had to know. Varadero is a much more modern bike than an old CB750.

If the Varadero has fuel injection with oxygen sensor... Correct mix all the time.

If this is correct bike
Inspection every 24.000 km
Replacement: 48.000 km

Per….. I should have looked! Well, after 16 years I guess I’ll replace them anyways. Will be interesting to compare the tips and see if the originals have any wear at all? Lesson learned!

If Honda knew when they wrote the manual. The should probably add 16 years or 48.000 km.

The old ones can be cleaned for spares. They have around 30.000km left...

If I had your Varadero, I should replace the plugs too, just for sure.

Bill…. Four valves/cylinder, fortunately only one spark plug per pot! Massive airbox with a vacuum operated door in the intake. To stop mice looking for a nice nesting spot? Filter was definitely original and filthy.

Per….. they actually look quite good and the gap was right on spec. Probably could have just screwed them back in!

Cleaned out 16 years of grime and finished up the chain and sprockets too.

Valves are quiet, so left them alone. All the paint splats on the airbox were intact so never opened. Filter replaced and also two small crankcase breather filters in the airbox too!

The valves may be quiet even when they're too tight..

I did a compression test and well up on the specs. Don’t want to go there, maybe next winter.

A couple years ago, my boat was not running normal, idled fine but was way down on power.

Changed the spark plugs and all was fine again!  [Big block Chevy, 496ci] They were 10 yrs old, never changed, we bought the boat new.

So in my mind, plugs are good for 10 years!

Steve….. the bike was running great. Here’s hoping I don’t screw in a duff set of “fake” NGK plugs, put it all together, and get a surprise. My local Farmer friends would say “Ain’t broke? Don’t touch it”!

Picked up the ridiculously expensive plugs in the pretty red Honda boxes. Got the tank back on (+5 pieces of bodywork). I’d drained the tank and put the “old” gas in my wife’s car so I won’t be road testing it until I pick up some fresh fuel! Oh well, it’s done.

Bill….. I only hope it runs as well as it did. I always tell people “I have no idea what 6th gear is for?”. The bike is much faster than me!

Filled it with fresh fuel today and fired right up. Even when warmed the idle needed to be turned down a bit so I guess it liked a clean airfilter and fresh plugs! Dropped it off the centre stand and the new drive chain is too tight….. Knock it forward a bit and we are ready for the riding season. Of course we have rain/colder weather coming for the next three days!

With this done (and some fresh gas in the shop), I’ll be firing up the K6 project next week.

Road days are coming, John.
That bike must be a nice cruiser on most roads.
Its torque must allow low rpm cruising in 60-100kmh on 6th gear. ( And faster... )
Twist slowly and away, passing slower traffic if stopping you or destroying the sightseeing.

Probably at relatively low rpm since is a twin with fat pistons.

My K6 with 970cc had 107whp @9230rpm
/68ft-lbs@6870rpm at last 2 dynos late 2022.
Not only good acceleration to +200kmh.
I like cruising on 5th gear without needs to gear down. If not in a hurry, 60kmh and up work fine. I tested from 50kmh (2000rpm) during the carb jetting days.
(Easier to keep the lower speed limits on lower gears)

I do not like to have a car or other vehicle in front of me on nice roads with beautiful surroundings.
Must focus on it before it suddenly slows down.

Did 10 miles today. What a difference the chain and sprockets make. The “drone” I was hearing constantly is gone. Really a typical Honda. Flawless.

The idle is up 100-200 rpm and I have no idea how to lower it! It’s going to get cold again for a while, so put it away, under cover. Back to the K6.

So hear’s a good one. Talk to a very experienced tech at my local Honda shop. He said just get it good and hot for a couple of trips and the idle will “fix itself”. Mmmm.
