Where to Connect Oil Pressure Gauge?
« on: March 07, 2007, 08:06:30 PM »
Finally got the K0 I purchased checked over and the oil changed. The oil light is not working. Bulb is OK. Went ahead and started it for a couple of minutes after changing the oil. The oil tank pumped down to the correct level and I appear to be getting good return, so the oil pump appears to be working. However, until I get the oil light issue worked out, I want to see an oil pressure while I work on the bike. Where can I connect one, and what size/thread is the fitting?

Thanks,

Jim

Not sure of the thread size but its a pipe thread I believe. There is a plug on the right hand side of your engine(above and to the rear of the points cover). Take out the plug. After getting a 90 degree fitting to screw the gauge into.drill & tap the plug in the middle of the hex. I don't recall the size but you should get everything together before starting the job.If you don't have a spare plug, you won't be able to start the bike till you get the hole you drill tapped and the gauge and fitting installed.

Thanks. I'll get a spare plug to drill and tap so that I can put the original plug back in once I know what the oil pressure is.

You don't need the 90 degree fitting if you aren't leaving the gauge on permenently.

True, but why would you trust a dummy light with your engines safety?

That seat does not affect my running issues...   no matter what you say.

:looks for a blue zodiac vinyl springer seat to replace the hang 2 seat: :o

I use the original location of the oil pressure lamp sensor for most oil sensor related attachments. A "T" can be added so that you can use the original lamp as well as a gauge. Hard lines prevail but it has to use a flexable connection at the fairing/steering head.

Having the oil temp/press gauges on the head with the rest of the gauges is a must for me. Hanging a gauge down buy my foot just doesn't work for me.

Have a look on ebay, I have seen kits for the 750 complete with the plug ready to fit.  I think they are around $50.00.

i was buying one from a local guy for $75.00 and supplying the engine plug(still avail new from honda) for him to drill/thread, but this one from ebay is absolutely an awesome piece.  I have it sittiing on display in my garage just to look at until I need it for my next restoration.   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160091781639&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_IT&refitem=160082544903&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget

Thanks everyone. I have considered using the port where the sending unit is, but may go with the side plug. I am going by Honda tomorrow to pick up some parts I had ordered and may get an extra plug at the time. The unit on Ebay does look good.
