'78 CB550K choke linkage spring(s)
« on: October 03, 2022, 06:14:22 PM »
Hi,

First post here.  Thanks to all for the amazing information.  I've searched up and down for my specific question but haven't seen it -- if someone knows of a thread where this is covered I'd be grateful if you'd point me there and I'll abandon this one.

I"m looking for the spring(s) that connect the choke cable linkage to the choke butterfly shafts.  I recently acquired this bike and in removing the carbs discovered that the linkage was attached (very sloppily) with some twisted wire.  It *sort of* worked, but the 3-4 butterfly valves were always at a slightly different angle to the 1-2 valves, and because of the way the wire attached the two shafts the 3-4 valves were slightly closed even when fully "open."  All in all a terrible bodge.

It looks like I might be able to buy the full choke "link set" for around $100 (though it seems to not be widely available), but all I really need are the springs.
I've attached a photo of the link set and the springs in question.  (By the way carbs are Keihin PD46.)  I'd rather not spend $100 for two springs if I can avoid it.  Anyone know of a better solution?  Huge thanks in advance for any info here.

Thanks; I had indeed seen that thread and it will most certainly help with reassembly.  The issue I have is actually getting my hands on those choke link set springs.  From photos it looks like the springs from 77-78 CB750 carbs (I think PD42s?) may be the same as those for the CB550 (PD46).  If anyone can verify or refute that once again I'd be most grateful.
