1975 CB550 value by
« on: November 20, 2022, 08:38:29 AM »
I’ve stumbled across a 1975 CB550 that’s in supposedly great shape. It has only had one owner and has 7400 miles, mostly Shriner miles. The only item not stock/original is the exhaust which is a four in to one delvach (so?). One thing that is bothering me is it is blue with CB decals and badges. I thought the 550f was the only blue one in 1975. He wants $5200. I’m not familiar with the 550 market. Is this a good deal? Thanks in advance!!!

Put in a little leg work for shipping and good deals are all over the place.

In my experience (10 or so bikes) shipping from east to west coast has never exceed $650 if you have a little flexibility with your schedule.

Sounds pricey with a non standard paint job to me
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Thanks for all the info. What would be a fair offer, considering it’s ready to ride?

Yes.
I think if a person is serious about buying it,make the guy a good offer and then tell him the title will bring your offer up.

The price he's asking could almost be considered:if it was a CB750.   plus this time of year/late in the season..
I think $5200-$4000 for that CB550.. it's alot of $ to ask for the end of Nov.

whats a fair offer to someone who misrepresents a bike they are selling? ( not an "F", not stock, reference the tank, paint, fender, handlebars) swears only 7000?...swears only pipes aren't stock?...says no bs offers......seems to have a title issue?.......
...facebook?....
too many legitimate bikes out there for less
I'd walk......."a fool and his money...."...

but it appears you want it ....

Vermont title/registration would allow you to get it re-registered and plated, then in a year or 6 months apply for Ohio title as if you are moving it from VT as the owner…

But, the price is not attractive nor reasonable for example unless it were showroom condition with original exhaust and much lower miles…

nice looking survivor there, paint color isnt stock but the paint job is well done...doesnt matter cause you dont like it though. If you appreciated the bike having all of its stock components that look to still be in very good shape then its a good candidate, you could pay 1500 and get a set of busso reproduction pipes and be a step closer to having an original bike. If you wrench on bikes yourself then i think asking price is too high, if you dont turn wrenches at all and not looking for a collector then I guess its a fine bike to buy. Bikes without titles to me are just parts bikes and not worth the legal interstate paperwork...but if its for my daily rider it might be worth it i guess.

in short, you can get very original stock 550s for that price range with correct paperwork. Then you can buy whatever aftermarket components and toss them on. His bike is a $3000-$3200 to the right person, less for me cause no title.

I personally love to see a bike for sale with the title in the seller's name, even if it does need some cosmetics re-done.
A good vintage bike that's sat for a while with all original parts;then the only thing to do is 'wake it up' & 'clean it up'  ;)
They're worth waiting for,ones like that.  :)

The seller is making a common mistake in his ad. To him F=4. That is a '75 550K but definitely not a color Honda ever offered on the 550 in the US, it looks like someone put some love into painting it though.

The Delkavic exhaust is a great product, but the missing trumpet style 4-4 exhaust is a big negative in my book. If the seller installed it he made an expensive mistake, even in just fair condition the original exhaust adds to value.

Not a $5,200 bike to be sure. $2,500 seems like a more reasonable number given overall condition. Bill of Sale shouldn't be an issue since you are buying from a state that doesn't issue titles, but you need to get a copy of the registration too and it needs to match the BOS.

Well, the issue was decided for me. I contacted the seller and was discussing the discrepancies with the bike. Plus, even in a state that didn’t issue titles before 1976, there’s an issue if the bike hasn’t been registered regularly. The last registration was in 1999. Even if it was stored, Alabama will assess a penalty. The owner didn’t believe me,became agitated and hung up while stating that I didn’t need the bike!! I never even got to make an offer, lol. I think he was right. I don’t need that bike. As for an earlier reply, yes I can wrench and love doing it. Been working on and building bikes for 56 years. I want one last light project before they cover me with dirt!! I’m in the midst of recovering from my second shoulder replacement and I can’t wait to get back on a bike. Sorry about the length and thanks for all the replies. I’m looking for a 70-76 750. Thanks everyone!!!
