Correct colour 350
« on: October 05, 2022, 07:40:35 PM »
Hi All,
I have just scored a 350 project bike that will take some work. It came with 2 sets of fork shrouds. Both appear to be original paint, but wildly different shades. I know Matador Red is supposed to be the colour, but in various contemporary road tests, there seems to be quite a variation. Anyone know which, if either, of these two is correct? Neither is metallic, or if so, very very fine.
Thanks.

If it's a 350F (and they look like 350F fork tube covers although I'm not positive without checking) neither are the correct paint. no metal flake. The top photo is a twin, of course.

*After doing a little poking around, they do look like 350F fork cover because they have the little cut out area at the bottom and it looks like 350 twins do not (although I'm not 100% on this). Maybe someone painted them to match a 350 twin and they are interchangeable? Dunno.

Sorry, 350 Four, since this is a sohc4 forum, I didn't think I needed to specify. Also, I don't think the paint is metallic, but there is no evidence that either of them has been resprayed, all looks factory on the inside and no different paint coats underneath. If either had been resprayed, surely no-one would have stripped the paint off inside the tubes and then only left overspray like the factory. Same type and colour of undercoat on both.

Looks like I might have answered my own question, untouched sidecover. Looking at various photos, it seems there might be a bit of variation. The pre production article in the archives section of this forum shows a darker shade that looks to be metallic. Looks better than this too.
Thanks.
