Honda 70cc clone engine assembly

I know that when you do a job often you learn how to do it with your eyes closed....
BUT.... I love how they slam the cylinder down on the piston, dry, and I never saw them stagger the rings. And I SWEAR the guy adjusted the valves by feel.

I like how they dunk it to check for leaks. I heard that is simular to how Harley Davidson used to fill their motors with oil, except Harley just let the oil leak in!

The rings rotate, there is no reason to stagger them.

You can bet, that if one of them was to build one of those engine for themselves at that assembly plant, they would take their time and use some tlc & oil;which is what they should be doing more of anyway.

It's a clone. I've heard that on many of these clone engines that Honda parts are interchangeable.

Kymco for years built the small motors and lots of other parts for Honda under contract and they built a good product. They then went out on their own and built their own scooters and because of the quality work they did for Honda they learned the value of it and as a result build one of the better scooters out there.
True, lots and lots of the small displacement motors can 8nterchange parts as they don't bother with patent or try to legislate or convict others of copying the design of hard parts...
The C70 motors went through changes and now since 82 most parts are often interchangeable with clone motors. The drAtv site has some examples of that with clone motor top ends and even pistons and the like being direct transplant.
The clone motors don't have the longevity of a Honda motor though. Often you can drop a good quality clone motor of similar displacement on an old small Honda cheaper than you can rebuild the Honda motor, but the clone motor is going to give you 1/3 the longevity and reliability of a properly rebuilt Honda motor.

ive done a coupla honda "dax" or ct70 motors,so indestructible from honda, ill guess youll get a good or bit off clone engine?you gotta split the case to replace the kick start shaft though, did one for a mate got a repro copy shaft so cheap n went in all good,no way on a good tight properly bored one will youll simply slam the barrel over the rings?gotta take a bit of care there.
