Someone was throwing these out
« on: October 23, 2022, 12:59:40 pm »
Really surprised to see these lying on the side of the road being thrown out. I snagged them and my daughter was not even embarrassed helped me to throw them in the car.

These are hondaline. I think some of the mounting brackets are missing. Not sure.

Does anybody know what model these are? And can they fit onto a CB750 or gl1000?

Bags would probably fit either plus others, its the bracketry that varies with the bike

Every old Vetter I have tossed out by the road has disappeared and that's even after I gut all the wiring, lights, compartment covers etc..  :) Keep the brackets also somewhere  :D

I have developed a mild  addiction to Vetter fairings and bags. I have at least 3 sets. I even joined the Vetter forum. Something about them  that I like. I thinks it's their practicality and design at the consequence of aesthetics.

I'm a member too but I don't have any bags in my collection.

My 94' Kawasaki ZG 1000 Concours fairing is very similar to a Vetter. I've ridden through a lightning storm with 60mph gusts, steady 30mph winds and torrential rain without getting wet. It works better than my friends modern sport touring bikes which includes an FJR 1300 and a second generation C-14 Concours.

years ago i bought a GS850GK suzuki 9 like the stock one but with a factory vetter fairing ) i'd had a few GS850's before and was quite used to them, very comfortable , not massively fast but tolerable. i spent a bit on the new one getting tyres, brakes etc fixed and had all the electrics working so i had a stereo for the first time since i'd been riding vespas.
got the bike back from the shop, helmet on, quick ride down the street to check all was good before registration...what a steaming pile of sh1t that fairing turned that bike into, what handling it may have had was destroyed by that huge lump perched above the handlebars, turned round , put it in the garage and advertised it for sale
i blame Terry

The GS 850 probably needed stronger fork springs to carry the 30 something pounds the fairing added. The springs were likely giving thier all hauling you around before the fairing. 8)

tis true i'm not the sveltest gazelle in the zoo but the fairing was factory fitted so it would have had the stronger pogo sticks fitted to start with. no regrets though, the missus let me buy a vmax instead

So often, you find the bags on ebay without the brackets. I never figured that out.

17lbs, I've weighed 2 different fairings including windshield, headlight and frame mount. 17lbs.

That's the weight of 10 liters of fuel.

You must have the lightweight ABS fairings?
Mine is the original 2-layer fiberglass version (hand-laid), weighs about 20 lbs with the 1" taller windshield aboard.
I also use air forks, running about 3-10 PSI, depending on how much stuff I have in the fairing pockets.
Still have the OEM front springs, too! :)

Riding without the Vetter (when I test others' bikes) is the best reminder of WHY the Vetter is still on mine, since brand new. :)

You want to sell one? I have those on my '76 GL1000. Someone pried one off at a rest stop during a trip and stole it. Those you found take the same key number (433) as mine.

Good move!

The Vetter became gigantic partly due to the Gas Crisis of the 1970s. We might be seeing that again?
