switchable gas tanks?
« on: February 03, 2006, 09:29:43 PM »
does anyone know what other tanks would fit a 1982 cb650sc?

It seems to be pretty specific to that year but I'm wondering if any of the other honda tanks might fit.

I'm lookin as I'd like to try and take a stab at making a tank with the indentations for my knees with out using my current one (in case i screw it up)

edit: also I noticed a link to a hud that mounts on the helmet anyone use something like this?

I bought a 1981 650RC05 recently, which had a CB500 Tank fitted. I don't know if the 1982 650sc Frame is exactly identical, if so it should fit.

I think any 650 tank will work but if yours is the nitehawk (sc) the looks will be off.  79 wont fit as it is longer.  The 80 (also 79) has the old carbs so it had a smaller bung for the petcock.  Ways around that though.  I'm wondering if a 650 tank will fit on my 360.  Have to check it out this week.

I've got a 82' CB650 and I bought what I thought was a replacement gas tank.  But I think it came off an SC or nighthawk.  I made it fit by adding extra steel washers to the two posts off of the frame near the front and had to bend down two tabs on the bottom of the tank near the rear.  Other than that it fits ok, just doesn't quite look stock.  I you find a good regular CB one maybe I'll swap you.  So based on this, you can probably use a regular CB tank.

yeah I have the nighthawk.  Thing is the stock tank on thie nighthawk tapers back to the seat position but I want more of a rounded (hopefully larger) tank that can have knee inserts put in it.

My buddies do a lot of work on old suzuki GS's and thats where I had gotten the idea from since just about any gs tank is interchangable...

Looks like a 77 or 78 k model tank to me but I could be wrong. Brent

I have no idea what it is but I really like the design of it as its not nearly as tapered as the nighthawk tanks.  Just no clue if I could make it work
