If you can get the pipes clean inside, Eastwood makes an inside the pipe stainless paint that seems to work well to insulate the chrome. It works with an 18" plastic hose and a circular spray nozzle. Extra cost of course, I use their paint and prep spray to clean the pipes and also clean the hose the same way after painting.
Also, since David mentioned plastics, Lucas mist and shine does a good job of filling micro-scratches in Lexan face shields and windscreens.
I witnessed a crew rubbing the inside of a brand new Funnycar body's Lexan with paper towels and Windex. The more they rubbed, the worse it got. We finally asked them to please stop and took them mist and shine and microfiber towels.
