Hey all,

This is a two-parter about my 75 500F.

I read up in the 500 clutch bible, but i think my problem is not specific to the 500.

I was having what seems to be the common issue of my clutch taking a dump after about 20 minutes. So i replaced the plates, threw everything back together and now cannot adjust the cable in such a way that it completely disengages the plates. I pulled everything apart again to dblcheck my work, and am confident that everything was replaced properly.

I imagine that the old, stretched cable may just need to be replaced. Does this seem reasonable? (Just so you all know, i used the two barrel adjusters as the other adjustment is ceased, and i have given up trying to move it. I'm just chewing up that slot.)

This leads to the second part. Does anyone know where i can get throttle/clutch cables that are shorter that stock? 'cause the stock cables look real messy.

Does your cable go to the right clutch cover on 75 500F?

What discs did you use and, if EBC or Barrett what parts numbers do you have?

If you are in the USA its either a 75 CB550 or an earlier CB500, which is it?

Your wasting your time trying to adjust the cable without adjusting the worm mechanism first.
The cable adjusters should be backed off before adjusting worm.
You will probably have to remove left footrest, gearchange and cover to free off mechanism
Probably 95% of clutch problems are 'owner induced' due to poor maintainance and bad adjustment
(not picking on you, just pointing something out after reading too many similar threads.)
 It's pretty difficult to get an old bike and then be (pretty much) forced to do mechanical jobs you've never seen before.
Even a lot of shops get this wrong or are too lazy to do it right

It's definitely a CB500.

Sounds like I need to pull off the drive-side cover and keep working on freeing that adjustment.

Any word on the cable compatibility and or places to find shorter cables? I got a clutch cable from OBB for my 350, and out of the bag it look exactly like the 500 clutch cable (didn't compare length). Can this be applied to throttle cables as well?
