Here is the spray I use, The can is at least 15 yeas old!

Yes,the Permatex company has had that spray for quite a while;it works well on valve cover gaskets, etc.
That's probably were I bought it for back in the 70s, and the oil pan.

I’m a fan. A very light coat, and let it totally dry before use. I spray both sides if I want a permanent seal, just the gasket for less aggressive grip. On engine side covers, I only do the outside. Gaskets stick to the cover and get used over and over.

I like using it on non-rubber porous gaskets where it might leak oil w/o it;I let it dry for a good while before installation.

Installed head today, 2 - o-rings from Hondaman (between head and cylinder for oil pressure lines), the 8 - shortened dowels and new seals around them, and Vesrah head gasket (no sealant).

Torqued all head nuts to 11ft lbs., then 14 ft lbs.  Smaller 6mm bolts went to 7.5 ft lbs.

Will leave like this for a day or so and check torque gain.

What's the consensus on re-torqueing? Loosen them first or just re-torque from current status?

Only tighten head by 14 ft lbs?

I tightened over 20 when I used stock studs and 836cc. 21-22 with heavy duty studs.

At least 18 ft lbs must be ok with a good torque wrench.

I re-checked a few at 14 ft lbs that I left since yesterday, a couple would go more.

So I loosened all of them in reverse order and did a 4 step torque, 10, 12.5, 14.5 and final of 18 ft lbs.  Will leave overnight and check again tomorrow.

Spent time cleaning (with brake spray cleaner) all top end components, especially the oil jets and oil holes in the cam towers.

Plan is to install cam towers/cam tomorrow.

Anyone use Blue Loctite on cam tower nuts/bolts?

Is this Permatex liquid sealant ok to use for pucks?

I would not use that. Honda Bond is a great liquid sealer I prefer for the pucks. Loctite makes a very similar product that I intend to try out. Also, poke down through all the tower bolt threaded holes in the head. Most are blind holes, but in some heads, they are drilled and tapped right through, into the air gaps in the casting. These can also drool a bit of oil through. A small dab of the sealant on those bolt threads is a good idea too!

Cam sprocket bolts need blue loctite or similar brand with same strenght. Not harder.
Tighten with loctite when cam timing is berified to be correct.
Rotate engine with cam chain tensioner mounted. Adjusted, release and tighten at 15* ATDC. 1:4 Spring tower has just passed case mark

I have used high temp silicone under the pucks the last times.
Work fine, not as rinny as Permatex Aviation no 3

Yes on Blue Loctite, using HondaMan's book, helps a lot.

Just a note. If you remove the exhaust studs, you will have a much easier (well, a bit easier) time putting the engine back in the frame. I also push on a piece of 1/4” fuel hose, split down one side, to the top fin on the head. Saves the frame paint......

Benelli, I tried to remove a couple of exhaust studs and they didn't budge, was concerned I would break one so am leaving them in, but I wrapped the frame with old cut up heater hoses, if I scratch it here and there no big deal, I can touch it up.  This is not a concours bike.

Almost ready to go in......................hopefully early next week.

denward17,that finished engine assembly looks Great  8)
I hope you find a person whom you can trust to help you lift it into the frame.
A few members have set-up their engine over on it's side, then installed the frame over the top of it;either way,a helper would be nice.
