I just bought a 1978 myself and really enjoyed reading through this entire thread!  I learned a ton from reading all the comments and your bike looks beautiful.  I learned to ride on a 1978 CB750K in that exact color and pinstriping.  I bought this one to try to recreate it and to see one like I remember in your thread was pretty inspiring!  Beautiful bike and great documentation for everyone to see the evolution.  Thanks for sharing it.
Welcome aboard Nick
Are you going to start your own project thread on your bike?
Also, go to the new members introduction section and introduce yourself and your bike. Pictures are always welcome.

I took you up and headed over to new members and introduced myself.  Should have done that right away but I was in the zone.

Initially I had no plans to do any kind of photoblog like this but you all have inspired me, especially those of you who helped me diagnose and work through my brake light issue today.  I will say the whole thing is pretty intimidating.  I know how to turn a wrench and generally how things should look, but how to get them there is a whole different thing.  But I think I am going to document it so I can maybe help someone else who knows just enough to get themselves in trouble (like me).  Besides this is supposed to be my retirement thing, might as well get started on it early and enjoy riding it when I retire!

❤️ Have a blast doing it and learn as you go.

And for even more insight into these SOHC 750s buy Honduran's book, it's a great resource and helps keep the mistakes to a minimum.

Not sure what happened but they changed something almost a year ago and the autocorrect misspellings got far worse than previous….  Drives me nuts

Time for a little maintenance check.

I've put about 460 miles on it and thought I would check some simple things to make sure things are like they should be.

1-Adjusted cam tension
2-Adjust valve lash, they had opened up a bit since start up, see attached pic below.  The top numbers were current setting, the bottom number I adjusted to.

3-This afternoon I will re-sync the carbs.

^Thanks,

Carb sync complete, it was off some from initial setup.  It appears to have helped with the noisy clutch basket as well.

I’m always surprised how that second synchro (after a few hundred miles) is required. Always seems to settle the engine right down….. Job well done. Bike looks great!

Out for a ride yesterday after the minor tune up, picked up a nail in rear tire.

Ordered replacement tube, inside of tire appears to be fine, small nail.

Had one of the brake cushions to break when taking hub apart, ordered a new set from ebay.

Took the opportunity to clean up things in the rear, polished the brake hub....again...

You could hopefully ride back home avoiding a flat tire on a remote road far from home.

Sorry to hear about your flat tire, been there. It is a weird feeling riding a bike while the rear tire loses pressure...

Went for about a 25 mile ride today, performed fine except it was hot as blazes, about 94 degrees F.

Only a balmy 94 degrees?  I also went for a ride the other day, it was a scorching 104!

Was planning to go for a ride this morning before 95+ heat hits today.

The bike was dead, nothing would work.  Checked battery (I know it is low) and it was right at 12 volts.

Checked main fuse and noticed it was loose, the top right prong fell off as I was removing fuse.

I guess I need a new fuse block.  Checking with Hondaman to see if he still has those, his website is down.

If you end up upgrading to the Hondaman box and are looking to part with the lid to your fuse box you let a brother know...

In all seriousness I'm sorry that happened and hope it's back better than ever soon!

Indeed, ordered one from HondaMan, so if I don't need you are welcome to it. Might be a couple of weeks though, I think he will have to build one for me.

Den - that would be great if you don't need/want it.  I'd like to get my hands on one and then have my friend with his 3d printer make a few spares so I'd be able to send it back.  I need to get a 3d printer but won't do it until I retire and don't have to worry about Army moving me anymore.

Installed new fuse block today and went for about a 25 mile ride.  Seems to work just fine, and I like the blade style fuses better.

Thanks HondaMan (Mark).

scubanerdnick, if you still need the OEM fuse block cover to copy I can ship to you.  I would like it back when you have finished with the 3d printing..

Den - I'm getting with my buddy to confirm he thinks he can do it and has the time to do it.  Once I know for sure I will send you a PM one way or the other.  I do appreciate the offer.  These things are apparently harder to track down than the actual fuse block.
