Shifter drum question. Where does the big wheel ride?
« on: March 09, 2007, 02:53:58 AM »
Can somebody tell me for certain if the large wheel of the shifter rides in the outer or the inner groove in the shifter drum. Took some pictures and looking at the Clymer illustrations it looks as if it rides on the outer one, but when assembling it falls naturally into the inner groove.

Good luck putting all of those springs and levers back together - that's a tricky little bastard.

The inner spring is the worst.

According to this website:

It looks like you assembled it properly. The shifter arm rides in the outer groove.

Thanks, You're right there's the shifter arm in the outer groove of your pic.

It did take almost an hour and a few banged fingers to put back together.

I did this last year and its not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Just need to remember where everything goes. Good luck!
