350F Piston Ring Compressors
« on: November 21, 2022, 06:21:59 PM »
Rebuilding the top end of three 350Fs.  All of my manuals show the use of four ring compressors.  Is there another way?  If not, can anyone suggest a source for compressors for the small
350F pistons?

sfhurst,

Take a look at this post - http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,191043.msg2223439.html#msg2223439

Hondaman said he uses his fingers for the 350F pistons.

Also that link has some discussion about some type of ring compressors used on chainsaw engines (smaller pistons). There's an Amazon link to where the one guy got his compressors. Hope this helps you.

Unless its been way overbored the taper on the cylinders at the bottom is enough as long as you take care

I remember using my fingers on my 500 when I rebuilt. But I think another tip I found was using hose clamps. Although it was so long ago I can’t exactly remember.  it may have been a combination of both. I may have used my fingers for the first two and then when there was less space for the second two I used the hose clamps.  I definitely had an extra pair of hands helping me as well.

+1 on “extra hands”. The easiest way I’ve found on our SOHC bikes is to have three pairs of hands!
One handles the barrels, and one pair on each piston being being inserted. Sounds complicated but actually works the best...... two guys feeding in the rings and one holding the barrel goes smoothly.

I think that this guy has got it nailed using Zip Ties. Not a CB350F in the Youtube link but you can see that the Zip ties seem to work well.

I like to use my fingers, but I've also used band clamps.
