EBay Charges
« on: November 23, 2022, 06:07:07 AM »
I have not used EBay for a while. Yesterday moved out an item I wanted gone. Total sale was $150. Happened to look at their charges yesterday and wow! $27.61 or 18.25% of the sale.

This number is specifically Canadian, but if they are collecting provincial (state) and federal taxes everywhere, it’s no longer such great option!

I can confirm that eBay collects local sales taxes on all sales here in the US. You used to be able to avoid them but not any more.

even better they add on 10% local tax on used goods from overseas into australia. we're not supposed to pay any tax at all on s/hand goods , wonder if they actually pass it on to our local tax dept ?
i blame Terry

Seems FB Marketplace is probably a better place to sell and buy.........I've bought several things w/o taxes.

I’ll try that next time. I do feel EBay gives truly international exposure. I wonder what they do for major items like a motorcycle? Here in Canada any applicable taxes and transfer fees are typically payable by the new owner at registration time, so no need for them to butt in?

I believe there is a different rate when an item is sold on eBay Motors, it may be a flat rate?
Sold a car once but it was many moons ago and cant recall what I had to pay them.

And Eric updated his other thread, we wont be receiving a 1099 for money we received through Paypal.
I really wasnt concerned as I'm more a buyer than seller.

I feel what you're saying John;Ebay is horrible to sellers in many ways, especially if a person is a new seller.
That company has gotten too big and they're loosing-touch with 'the real world'.
