Riddle me this,
« on: November 26, 2022, 01:46:30 PM »
What is the last CB750 bolt I would have expected to find broken off in its hole? Too easy hint, it only exists to fill a hole and hold a washer in place.
  And yes, it happened.

Nope, fork drain. I tried to screw in a plug (bolt) and there was no hole past the first thread.  I poked at it and realized it was solid. I drilled it for an easy out and the right-hand drill screwed it in. Santa needs to bring me some left-hand drills and some new screw removers. It eventually came out.

True, you should see the diecast head I have. The fool drilled the cam towers for 5/16". I found thread inserts that are 10mm od and 6mmx1 ID.

True. If it was any old head, I'd set it aside but it doesn't have the front center bolt and is matched with its original cylinder so that makes it pre-23,000? A perfect match for a sandcast motor hiding in a no number die cast replacement case.

We used to fit "Keenserts"back in the 70's, they were 10mm od(but an odd pitch) and 6mm I'd. You would never pull them out but needed seal to stop an oil leak

I had the exact same thing happen to me several years ago with my K2. When I started to remove the fork drain bolt it felt like it was stripped in the hole. As I turned it carefully to remove it the bolt head came off. Luckily, a left hand drill bit spun the stud out and once replaced all is well. I was having visions of having to drill and tap this drain bolt but fortunately it didn’t come to that.
