K1 750 interchangeable K0 750 tubes
« on: November 27, 2022, 08:39:07 AM »
I know the fork seals are different for the early K0s. Does anyone know for sure if the K1 fork tubes work with the K0 fork lowers?

K0 and K1 both use 35mm tubes, 23” long. I believe the lowers are interchangeable too. You’ll have to use the 1969-71 brake bracket and front fender to match.

If you read the Sandcast Only forums you will see there are minor differences in the top area (were the rubber gaiters attach). If you stumble on an early set you can easily trade for whatever you want + $.

I believe they do interchange. I bought a set of replacement tubes for a sandcast fork set and didn't need to specify except 69-71.
I think the supply of replacement tubes is running low, prices are reflecting this as stocks run out. I just overpaid for a set of -2" K2-6 style fork tubes also known as cb550 stock length.

What do you mean? I am lost and I am pretty familiar with the bikes

The sandcast and early forks have a sharp angle below the fork gaiter/seal area where the later forks have a smooth taper below the gaiter/seal area. The only difference is appearance.  They both use the C shaped brake bracket and take the early fender mount type.

Don is absolutely correct..... It’s a very subtle difference. I had to have the two types side by side to actually see the difference. I’m currently restoring a very early Sandcast and slowly learning about these things.

You're talking about the lip before the gator attaches? I know that. I assumed you meant something else

All righty then..
The one with the plastic on the tubes is a K3 newer style, in the middle is a K1 with the taper under the seal area and on the right is a K0 with the sharper top angle.

Perhaps someone knows what serial number or model the change to the smooth taper happened? I have a very late K0 with a 71 title and believe it came with the tapered fork top but am not positive.

Don..... Nice. It becomes obvious! Here’s my very early S/C, with the sharper edge. Thanks!

Great information and picture to see the difference 👍

A picture still needs words to draw the proper attention....
