Drove straight through to Monte Carlo from Sicily--25
hours-in my Fiat 124 Spyder (still have it!)-with Navy
buddy Dave.
Got a hotel room on the track, 4 days before the
race-$35/night-- rent controls in effect for older
hotels at that time--try that today?
Got kicked out the night before the race--slept on a
park bench--
No problem when you're 25 years old!
As a student of Formula 1, I knew that the night
before the race the place to be was the bar in the
Hotel de Pari-and I knew you had to be wearing a suit
or you couldn't get in the Hotel. So I threw on my
Hong Kong suit
went into the bar and nursed a gin and tonic for about
3 hours when
Graham Hill walked in--wearing a Tuxedo!--A very big
gearhead moment !!

I cars are the best ;)

Here is one of my runs at VIR Feb. 25,
frog strangler and sleet falling,
That's why I took the Lancia with snow tires and
left the 124 with race rubber at home. ;D
(won my class and even though I had the least hp lowest classed
car there I was 12th over all, I like rain driving ;D)
