550 Clutch basket grind?
« on: December 31, 2022, 03:03:33 PM »
Found some shavings in the bottom of the clutch cover, as I'm inspecting I notice what look like grind marks on the edges of the clutch basket all the way around. No idea if its supposed to look like this or it was hitting something while spinning. Would the shaft be bent to cause this? I could not find where it was clipping in the cover or on the smaller starter gear.

Firstly something odd where the outer fibre is although that would not cause the marks, for that check position of spacers  against parts book, very much doubt a bent shaft, never seen one nor heard on one

Looks like they are off and that I installed them wrong when I did the clutch plates last year jeez. It has been riding like that since then so I guess I didn't notice but this could be part of the gear change issues I've had. big ouch but looks like Ill replace two of each plates.

my guess is the thick steel shim behind the basket is missing?has the cover got similar damage inside?the shaft wont be bent full stop!
