CB500F 72 & 73 Frames. Same as 73?
« on: January 07, 2023, 11:26:02 AM »
Hi all. Recently bought a 73 CB500F. Turns out of the prior owner did some horrible looking welds I don't trust. So on the lookout for a new frame but only see 71 or 72 frames. Are they nearly identical or not? Would I be able to just swap parts over from my 73 to one of the other years or would I need a 73 frame. Thank you

they are the same.

Would that be the case for 71-78 years as well? Thank you

500- '76 550K bikes yes, pretty much the same frame for entire cb500-cb550K. The F bikes and 77-78K bikes used a different tank and seat length and brake pedal & kicker are a bit different on F causing compatibility issues.
F swing arm is different length as well.

1971-1973 cb500 frames are the same as 1974-1976 cb550 K model frames.
1975-1976 and 1977-1978 cb550 F model super sport frame have different passenger peg mounts and exhausts.
If you are swapping a 550 motor into a cb500 frame, you need to carry over the right rear motor mount as well and will be dealing with rear brake lever and exhaust support modifications.

plus everything else raf mentioned about tanks and swingers.

Having checked on cmsnl, which you can do easily, the CB550K2 frame has a different part number but all the 500 and the 550 K0 and K1 are all the same part number.
