Anyone still on rubber hoses think again - I just fitted braided steel hoses on my CB550K3 and it feels like I've added another disc. What a difference..........

I have a '76 750F, and was wondering if you, or anyone else has encountered a braided line that looks like the original rubber type. I hate to go with something that stands out like a sore thumb on an otherwire stock lookiing bike (not the one in my avatar, but my stock red 750F). Anyone know where to get someting like this for the front and the rear? I think this bike still has the original lines, and they're long overdue for replacement!

Try a search through older threads. I'm sure I saw one that mentioned you can get braided lines that are covered and look like stock.

Hel-USA have the braided lines with black sheath covering so looks like stock. Been mentioned before on previous threads on SS lines.

Did you guys keep the hard line by the front caliper or did you elimanate that. Seeing as HELUSA can do either one?? I think i am going to elimanate the hard line but wanted to hear pros and cons.

I personally kept the hard line to the caliper. I was advised to do this as you really don;t want something that can flap around near the spokes. It also retains the original look. The braided lines I bought from HEL are black coated. They are a bit thinner than the original rubber hose so it looks like a clutch cable.

I replaced mine and went all the way to the caliper with the line.
Works nice and the size of the SS brake lines is much thinner than the rubber stock hoses.

The reason I replaced it was simply aesthetics. I don’t like the look of rust and its one less thing to keep clean. I love stainless steel.

It looks close but I have yet to have any rub issues

Any where a little cheaper to replace the front line. $98 seems a little steep for a braided stainless line but maybe I'm living in a pipe dream world.

I am gonna have to hop on the bandwagon with everyone else and sing the praises of the guys over at HEL-USA.. I ordered up a brake line from them for my CB450 last weekand they were nothing but nice/helpful/etc.. I haven't got the line yet but I have no doubt in my mind it will be perfect..

HEL-USA makes braided lines for a good price and they use good parts. I used them when they first opened in the US. www.helusa.com

I've never bought my stainless steel braided hoses from braking eqwuipment manufacturers, far to expensive

Try your local hydraulics service centre, they will keep hose, in a variety of bores, in rolls along with a huge variety of fittings, they should be able to tailor make pretty much anything you need for a fraction of the price

, we have a place called swan bearings here in lancaster , they do bearings ,oil seals and braided brake hose

that HEL USA site is great. i was just looking into purchasing some lines for my 73 CB500 and i noticed on their site they list lines available for the CB550 K3, F1, and F2... all 1977 models.. ?? anyone know if there is any difference between hose sizes or if fittings are compatible across all three? i would think that generation 550 and my 73 500 would share the same hose sizes but wanted some reassurance before i decide to purchase.
