Its an F1, but could have sat in a crate in a warehouse unfegistered till 79. Yes all NEW 750 in 79 were DOHC BUT a lot of older models were unsold due to rumours of the "new" bike comming

And to add to that....when/if that 75 F1 was sold in 79, it was titled as a 79(the year it was 1st sold and titled) . This is the reason there was a class action suit in the mid 70s in the US and the results were that beginning with the 1976 model year, Honda put the model year on the steering neck vin plates(so this wouldn't happen anymore).
But I don't know if other parts of the world followed the vin plate updates to include the model year on the plate.

Pictures show a 1974 vin plate, a 1976(has model year in lower right corner) and a 1978 model(has bigger font for model year)

In UK if new does not matter what year it was built, the paperwork, V5 document, is worked from first registration.
Sold a few 550K3 2 years after they were built!

Different if registering an bike previously registered elswhere, then if you get an official letter stating proof of year of build they will issue a reg mark appropriate to that year, do note that in UK a vehicle keeps its registration from first issue to being scrapped, you can apply for a vanity or cherished reg if it spells something you like, for instance i have R10BLJ on my pickup as its my initials with a low number, you can not have a registration making the vehicle look newer, all registrations since1966 you can tell whhat year it was issued in

and to add to that...for American Honda...
Honda approved model year designation policy in 1973...ending sell date/release date policy.....
Official model year designation began in 1974.....however
There does not seem to be any frame data plates for '74-'75 models stating "Model Year".......so title/registration paper work could still be "wrong ?"...or would it?......hence, the lawsuit......
so, yep, 1976 and up American Honda model frame data plate says model year.......
.......that happened numerous times...unsold models titled the year they were finally sold....
prior to 1974, some hondas were officially "released" in a year, but not officially "sold" until the next year.....

um, that bike appears to be in excellent shape........$1800 just might be a steal...

well, that would be correct.....

That "built" date on these hondas is ..misleading. The built date on my '75 550F is 12/74.....supposedly, '75 550F's weren't available until spring (may) of 1975. As per a honda brochure I have...so the bike was "built" in december of '74 ?....then sat around until spring?...i guess.....
I always wondered if that was the frame build date.........eh, honda....

My 74' CB 550 K0 #449 has a build date of 6/73. I think that they have to build enough of the next year's inventory before they release them for sale. Not all states registered new bikes as the year they sold. Washington State registered bikes as the correct model year even if it was two years later when it sold new.
My brother bought a 79' CB 750 K new in 81' and the registration said 1979.

eh...yes....no.....maybe......
this bike was released in Jul/74....but not "sold" until 1965?.......hardly common....but, eh, honda...

and honda's own definition of release date.....maybe, I guess.....
