Topic: Cb750k Gas Tank Movement. How much is normal?

Howdy. I think this will be an easy one for somebody to answer, but I can't find any other threads on it. CB750K4.  The front rubber mounts are original, I just replaced the old hard rear rubber mount.  With the seat down, I can get quite a bit of movement of the tank if I put a hand on either side and rock it back and forth. It is filled to the brim currently for winter storage so there's a bit of weight in there.  Is this normal? Do my front rubbers need replaced? I don't think it could possibly come detached from the frame, but seems like a lot of play.   Thanks.

It’s pretty common. The front rubbers usually get harder which should, in theory, make to rock less! Next time you have the tank off, uses big set of channel lock pliers and give the “C-Cups” on the tank tunnel a squeeze. Just a little bit will snug it up nicely.

They may have shrunk some with age?
My new ones are fairly snug

That will not work with my 78K they are double Ds

I would think that over the years that the front rubbers can compress and develop a flat spot. That could be either where the tank bears on them or on the posts that they set on, or both. Before you subject the tank to damage with pliers, try rotating them about 90° and see if that helps. I wouldn't think that new rubbers wouldn't be too expensive though.

yeah put new rubbers,the steel on the tank and frame aint gonna budge over the years,the rubber will distort/shrink etc,dont bend any steel,just try new rubbers first!

Looks like $11.67 a pop for the real deal or $5.30 for aftermarket on David silver. Definitely worth a shot, I'll have to put some in the car next time I need to order some stuff. Even though my tank is pretty junky and I would not be scared of tweaking those C Cups a bit.  Thanks for the input.

New rubbers has soft almost sticky surface.
I had to lube my new rubbers to get the tank to slide on.
Yamiya tank and an old K2 tank.

The bright side is you can get your tank on and off easier for service with no real danger using the old rubber.

I have removed my tank very frequently on my blue K6 so it will almost glide off when telling it. At least 10-15 times each year....
Fuel hose wear at the upper ends to petcock.
Rubbers for tank work fine.
The rear rubber strap lives longer if Honda.
 (Like the battery strap.)
