Something interesting followed me home last night.
« on: January 15, 2023, 03:32:16 PM »
When BenelliSEI posted his chopper find in the project forum, it really got me interested in finding a chopper.  I was unable at the time to purchase and import it when he had it for sale. So I had been looking at older Harley and Honda choppers or diggers in my free time over the last year or two. I found this for sale on Friday night, and made the trip to go and check it out. It has some oil leaks, carb leak, which maybe was a stuck float,  tank looks a little crusty, but the owner said it wasn't ran in about a year. I'll do some investigating into the oil leaks, and put my scope in the tank when I get time. Excited to get this ready for spring and see if a chopper is really for me.

Nice Amen Savior frame. Nice thing about the frame is you can do a top end repair without taking the engine out. Girder front end is a little long for my tastes but not bad. Have fun. I always considered my bike was pretty easy to ride. Yours may handle a bit different with the longer front end.

My custom back in the day

74 CB550,73 Z1900, 74 Z1900, 75 Z1900,
72 XS2650, 73 RD350, 2013 FJR1300, 84 XJ550 YAM

THAT IS MY OLD BIKE! Looks like it’s been left outside for 12 months. Read my project thread for complete history, from Day One. That bike was perfect when it left here.....

Yes! I read through your project thread before I purchased.  Hoping to have it ready for spring.  I may private message you on some questions in the future.

I just bumped the project file to the top of the first page. Add to it anytime! There was a pretty thick file of info with the bike.  Did you get it? Happy to add whatever info you need. John D.

The few times I rode it, it did seem a bit “rich” at low revs. If I’d kept it I would have gone a bit leaner. Otherwise it started and ran really well. See my project post for carb type details.

P.S. Delighted to hear a forum member has it again!

Awesome,  thanks!! I'm sure I'll have some questions when I start messing with it.

Choppers like this one are good for building upper body strength.

Crazy...funny how when you sell a bike it can kinda cease to exist....then the internet brings it back.  I always wonder about the fate of bikes I have sold that I never hear about again.
If it works good, it looks good...
