Yikes! My Stash is Shrinking......
« on: January 16, 2023, 09:48:26 AM »
My Carlini Chopper reappearing on this Forum has reminded me of the bikes I’ve sold lately:
1977 Benelli 750 SEI
1975 Honda cb750F
1974 Honda cb750K
1974 Carlini Chopper
1970 Honda cb750K0
They all went to good people, who are using them a lot more than I could..
I did add the S/C project bike and the little Toyota Echo race car we rent on weekends, but the bike shop is definitely more “spacious”. The Rickman project is sitting in front of a K6 that needs completion, so no shortage of projects.... I guess “8 is enough”?

Hi
Some times we have to do purge of the fleet
Sooner or later I have to do the same
See when that will happen
At least here in Alberta (Sherwood Park)we can get Vintage plates for the old bikes
at or around the $70.00 mark for a life time
with restrictions of cause
My next project is a Cafe racer I have a GL 500 silver Wing waiting in line
that need to be put on a diet and some fancy work to be done

There is a picture of John's old bike/chopper that just popped up in this new topic of 'what followed me home'. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,191687.0.html

Have you still got an SEI, a Series 1, by any chance? A local guy has one and a while back we were trying to work out how the twistgrip comes apart, it was really baffling & I don't know if he has succeeded yet

I don’t remember it being that strange. I think there is an Allan cap screw clamp arrangement on the outer chrome barrel. I think there was a spare one in the parts I sent with the SEI. Not sure if this pic shows it..l

Better shot. I think I had to open it up a bit, remove the twist barrel, then slide it off the end. The controls are identical to late 1970’S Moto Guzzi. Try their websites for replacements.

That’s the issue in Ontario. Insurance. I keep my KLR, K1, K3 and the Benelli (up to a few weeks ago) insured year round. The other 5 are “ parked”......

Cheers, but yours is what we seem to think is the Series 2, the Series 1 like his has the key switch down by the tank and a twistgrip with no visible Allan caps at all. I'll give him a shout sometime & see if he has solved the mystery yet

That’s correct, mine was definitely a Series II.

For the people that have multiple bikes, my hat is off to you, I don't know how you keep up with all of them, not to mention the storage.

I just have one, and it has demanded all of my attention for the last several months, and I still don't have it back together yet.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel though...

Good with 2 bikes.
Hopefully one bike to use when working on the other in the riding season.

PeWe.... that makes perfect sense! I need two because my wife, or my son, occasionally ride with me.
That’s  the K1 and the K3. My Kawasaki KLR650 is a spare, gravel roads, errand running “not so nice day” bike. Then I need a project bike, currently the S/C. The Rickman is sitting, waiting it’s turn.

Mmm. I still have three I don’t need.

John, it is never wrong to sell bikes when the market is good for cashing in or back.

Your bikes look really good that next owner will enjoy too ;)

I have a number 3 in the making.
More or less my brown K2 that will get a not cut frame, also a K2.
That might be easier to sell.

My brown K2 bike will get another engine 890cc and Freedom Green metallic tank set + Lotus Root 4-4 pipes.
Must have one  running with typical 4-4.

The stock K2 will probably not be finalized before the summer. Frame and other parts need to be blasted and painted.

Frame kit is otherwise a must for me.

Indeed, the KLR was a great bad weather, go to the store bike. Had to sell mine as age was preventing me from swinging a leg over the lofty seat.

Yup..... It will be an issue soon. My wife likes the KLR because it’s quiet and doesn’t much care what gear she’s in. She does so much Yoga she’ll probably be able to ride it forever!

Nice bikes!

Thanks..... That old K3 is a brute. It’s the one I bought for $600 from a young guy that said it would seize up after 20 minutes of riding. Sure enough, I rode it about 10 miles and it stuttered to a stop. Cooled down for 20 minutes and it got me home before dying again. Took me two weeks to realize the tank vent was plugged. It was just running out of gas....
Never “restored”. Done the forks, swing arm bushings, new shocks and brakes. Whenever a part comes off it gets polished, painted, or replaced. Lesters came with another bike..... runs great, so leaving it as is. My son and wife ride it all the time and my grandson will be old enough soon.

John, you are quite capable of filling your shop again, as it was. I had never been in a shop with so many pristine CB750’s since my Honda working days 50+ years ago, so nice.

Hey Kevin! Thanks for the nice comments. Truthfully, I’m not rushing out for more. I like the manageable numbers and still have plenty to keep busy with. Happy New Year! John D.

I have room for three bikes. One I ride, one I work on, and one I feel guilty about not riding because I don't have time.
You only go around once in life so it might as well be on a motorcycle.
