Kelly…… matches the boat trailer nicely!

I was thinking the same!     Will you install Kilmat [or similar] insulation over it?

https://www.ebay.com/shop/kilmat-sound-deadening?_nkw=kilmat+sound+deadening

The paint is darker than the boat trailer.  8) I didn't have to do any metal repairs, just a lot of surface rust abatement. There was some pitting but no holes. I have a replacement floor mat with the same kind of insulation as stock. The new mat is longer and will go to the back of the cab covering all the fresh paint.

I got my Roadworthy certificate for my new(to me) twin turbo Subaru yesterday. It wasn’t too painful, the shop couldn’t properly focus the headlights so they found some “as new” headlights for it, and as I’d had the brakes done (all four discs machined, new pads and fluid flushed) new tyres, and a quieter exhaust installed, it passed easily. I just need to book it in to the DMV for their cursory inspection and get new plates. By the time I get it registered it will have cost me around 3 times the purchase price, but I got it so cheap that it’s still a lot cheaper than one in the same condition is selling for, if you can find one now, as they’ve become quite collectible now. It’s an awesome little beast with around 300 BHP in a small car, and with AWD and pretty stiff suspension, handles like a rally car. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry….. such a cool car and big bucks here if you can find one! Interesting that you “machined” the discs. Around here no one even knows what that means! Pads, calipers, discs problems are solved with “remove and replace”

The massive Toyota Supra vented, directional, EXPENSIVE discs on the LEXUS IS300 race car we run are clearly stamped with a MIN. thickness. I resurrected an ancient disc/ drum machine in the back of Tim’s shop that had not been used in forever. After two “clean ups” last season, they are well within spec and working well. When I pulled the machine into the shop, the three young mechanics were fascinated. They’d never seen one!!!!

Thanks John, it’s an awesome car. In recent years with cheaper aftermarket brake rotors available it’s probably cheaper to just replace them, but back in the day it was common to take the discs off and machine them in a brake lathe.

Then someone invented the “on car” brake lathe so that they didn’t have to remove the discs to replace them. Because I love machines, I’ve always wanted to buy a brake lathe, but could never justify buying one because it wouldn’t get much use. When I had to have the exhaust system replaced on the Subaru I spotted an old brake lathe in the back of Tony’s exhaust shop and thought about asking him if he’d sell it to me, as I don’t think he does brakes and the machine was covered in dust in a storage room, but once again, I don’t know how much use I’d get out of it, and my garage is already full of machines that I rarely ever use.

I have to go back to Tony’s shop to get the 3 inch sports exhaust put back on the Subaru once it’s registered, so I might ask him anyway… ;D

Terry….. the one Tim has is so massive that I just leave it at his business and go and dig it out when required. I need to turn down ann old front wheel hud I yo an andapter for the machine. I’d like to try annd lightly skim some cb750 discs.

Interestingly, we can buy aftermarket discs for about $100. The OEM Toyota Supra ones are three time that. Guess which ones last 5X as long? There is some real crap getting used up when we “ remove and replace”.

My car eats brake discs really quickly.  Worn out before first set of pads.
No hard driving/ braking.

The last front discs are Brembo that hopefully will live a little longer. They are slotted as the other fast wearing ones before.
Better braking in rain and winter when salt slurry can make brakes a little bit slippery.

Low priced noname discs (rotors) might have various recycled metals.
These parts differ much in price. I found good priced slotted Brembo front discs on Amazon.

Today we got the new floor mat mostly trimmed. Still have a bit of fine tuning to do. After that we'll attach the insulation and make thinner piece of insulation for the area under the seat that used to be painted metal but is now covered.

How are your front wheel bearings;worn front hub bearings can allow the rotors/discs to make contact with the brake pads more often and cause drag.

Front wheel bearings are replaced not long ago. I hear when they are worn.
Low cost brake discs are one thing.
Slotted discs another.
Brake pads might be one grinding detail too.

PeWe….. careful on Amazon. The last set of “Brembo” discs I bought for my Volvo C30 were very well priced and are still working fine. Definitely not true Brembo product. They are “CC” knockoffs for sure (China Cheap).

My neighbor commented on how late my wife brakes when turning at the corner and pulling into our driveway, I replied the Honda has 140,000 miles on the factory brake pads, it's hard to criticize her technique. The city had tar and granite chips laid on our street and a chip got stuck in the brakes at about 80,000 miles. I didn't even look, I just got new pads, they are still on the shelf.

I've been in discussions with the company building me the new 69 firebird body, I don't need the rear unibody frame rails since it's going onto an Art Morrison chassis. The problem is that it's part of the jig process when they assemble it. They are going to see if they can be tack welded or tech screwed in place so it's easier for me to remove them.

Tech screws would be great for ease of removal, no wheels of death involved.

Avoiding the death wheels is a big advantage. I do have a plasma cutter but usually end up grinding anyway. These days I use a 6" wheel of death and when they wear down they become 4.5" wheels of death.
The trunk floor in it now is for a convertible, it has mounts for the top mechanism, I had planned to make rear body mounts off of it, bolting the rear frame to the bumper mounts and avoid welding the body to the chassis. That's likely not the best plan so, unibody/full frame it is.

My wife's 2018 Mazda 3 recently exhibited "Ghost Touch" on the central infotainment screen. This is annoying and potentially dangerous. The problem is apparently caused by the touchscreen glitching/failing. I watched a YouTube video where a guy shows how to disconnect the electrical ribbon inside the screen. Righto, I thought, that looks pretty easy to do... and it was! Problem solved (we've lost the touchscreen capability, which was never that good anyhow)

Today I got the vinyl floor mat heat formed in the foot wells. Just the firewall left to finish. It will look good when it's done but kind of a pain in the ass. Halfway through the process my buddy says "if I had known it was like this I would have gave you the extra $100 for the rubber floor mat". :o. Now he tells me. ;D
