350F with 400F exhaust
« on: January 24, 2023, 04:34:21 PM »
Tried searching for an answer or solution but didn't find any. 350F I bought came with 400F headpipe and stock location footpegs, as has been noted by many the brake pedal contacts the exhaust when pressed down. My understanding is 77 400F had footpegs in same ? location as 350F not the rear sets of prior years. So my question is, is the brake pedal from 77 different and will it work on the 350 with 400F headpipe?
TIA

Check the parts fiches to see what the brake pedal looks like and importantly what the two part numbers are on a brake pedal from the early CB350F and the 1977 CB400F. If they are a different number then your likely good to use the later CB400F 1977 rear brake pedal with your setup.

The 75-76 had more rearwards foot pegs and shift and brake pedals to go with it, the 77 did not, they were moved forward and as a result the 77 had a forward mounted shifter and a longer brake pedal. Will it fit a 350 with a 400 pipe, there's one way to find out. I may even have those parts still floating around.

@ 3 years ago I saw a 350F with a 400F header on it at a bike night but didn't get the details.

The later 400Fs did have a different rear brake lever to accomodate the more forward pegs and the stock 4-1, IIRC. Googling a photo of the later bike should show you.  I'm guessing it would work on a 350F with 400F exhaust, but I've only gone the other way -- using earlier 400F pegs, lever and linkage. Good thing is the later pegs and lever are much cheaper to find...
