These fork uppers work on my cb500?
« on: January 30, 2023, 04:05:36 PM »
Ok so have a 72 cb500 that's really nice but ape hangers and like 4 + fork uppers.

On a FB group guy has these pictured and told me these uppers from a cb450/cb350 with work with my stock lowers . He said they are "damping rod forks"

Will these fork with my stock cb500 fork lowers?

Yes they will fit, first 450 twin disc had 500 tubes with 750 lowers. The sliders you picture are 500 ones

So I am understanding this clearly, I CAN use the first stanchions pictured in my otherwise stock cb500 lower forklegs to de-chopperfy the front end ?

Thanks that's useful knowledge.

Just to be sure, the CB/CL350s were 33mm fork tubes. The early CB450 Disc models, K3-K4, used CB750 style fork internals, no damper rods.  The CB450K5-K6-K7 used the damper rod style 35mm forks, along with the CB500 lowers. And yes, you can.

How do you know you have stock lowers? They may be off a later 550. Then you will have to buy the complete forks.

Look on the back side of the castings, if there is a 341 cast in, it's the same lower as a 750 just with shorter chrome tubes. I just assembled a 550 lower with the 21 13/16" Emgo replacement tubes from ebay to lower a 750 drag bike.

550 had caliper fittings on both sliders, 500 only on one
