Andy Stewart's U.S./Mexico CB750 Trip
« on: March 10, 2007, 04:23:41 PM »
I've been Googling a lot lately trying to find travelogues of people who have gone on long road trips with their SOHC Honda's, but examples have been really scarce.  So it seems that either people aren't trusting their thirty-year-old machines to reliably get very far, or they just don't buy these old bikes for touring.

So I have conspicuously bought my '78 CB550 with the intent of going on at least one long trip a year.  I live in Toronto, and am considering riding to Newfoundland, Florida, British Columbia, California, or Alaska this year.

However, I would love to hear about others who have made long trips on their bikes and how they went.  It would just be reassuring to know that I am trying something not too unwise.

Here is one of the few examples I have found of someone going on a long trip with a CB750...  It's on Andy Stewart's Honda Restoration website.  Here is the link to his trip:

I found the log pretty interesting.  Of note is the fact that his bike was pretty much stock and that he didn't even have a windshield!  The reliability of the bike was pretty impressive too.

I came across this one when I was looking for internet resources to get my CB550 back on the road. The bike may not be overly impressive for its visual appeal, but the tour it completed is astounding!

Thanks for the plug Rob - the website www.hondarestoration.com is not mine but owned by Steve Blake who hosts my travelogue for me (since I have no website of my own :-(). Anyway good luck with your own travels and let me know if you pass through Boston/New England.

cheers
Andy
