Center stand repair CB500k3
« on: February 13, 2023, 10:09:26 AM »
Previous owner really butchered the frame brackets for the center stand. Anyone with experience repairing this? I can do decent TIG welding but was wondering how to fabricate the missing pieces.

Probably cheaper and easier to buy a section of a frame and cut and weld that in yours or whole frame.

Unfortunately frames like these would cost 2-300$ here in Denmark, so I was looking to repair it by constructing a new piece.

weld a big heavy washer over the hole, you dont really need the split clamp part for it to operate,i only slip my centre stand on for wheel or chain service.

Dave is correct any metal shape with a hole in it can work, if you want it factory appearing, you need a cut off part.
I made a replacement tube and heated and re-shaped the brackets after a PO ruined the parts.  It now has a cotter pin on each end. I have also narrowed a center stand so it may be used with a 4-2 header.

Previous 2 have good advice.  I would put a straight pivot shaft in the holes and hose-clamp it to the parallel frame tube to hold in place.  Then try to heat and re-form the left one to shape. Then as Dave mentioned above, put a thick, snug fitting washer on the outside of the right bracket and weld in place, and brace it.  The right side of the pivot shaft can be held in with a cotter pin.

Or you can have this piece for the price of postage. I'm in Calif. 91803 and it weighs 1lb.

Judging by the tubular passenger peg support, yours appears to be a SuperSport model.  Same pivot shaft though.

In Denmark they made a CB500K3 that resemble a super sport styling, but it is a CB500k

Man, I would not be splicing my frame just to repair/replace that part....if you are welding in a spliced frame then you should be able to handle making something that functions the same as stock. Get some flat stock and weld in a spacer large enough for a bolt to drop through like the original set up.

I certainly agree about splicing a section in, and that wasn't my intent.  The stamped pieces can be cut from the tube and welded on, but I wasn't going to do that.  I just cut up an old frame that was headed to scrap.

So I just ended up fabricating something, and it turned out to work really well.

Just sent the whole frame, swingarm and stand for sandblasting and powdercoat. Should be ready in a weeks time.
