Can you identify this? Did it come out of my motor?
« on: February 17, 2023, 05:32:41 AM »
After splitting the cases of my 72/73 CB750 I found this on the bench. (I can't say for certain it wasn't there before I started - was it something I was useing for a drift?? Damn memeory)
It looks like a wrist pin with the same kind of wear but too small for 750.
It's 47.mm long. 12mm OD, 8mm ID
I'm ready to button up the cases and I didn't see anywhere it should go. That said I want to make sure before I mate them. Put one together last winter and this thing doesn't ring any bells

I do not I recall a similar looking part being inside a K7 engine.

however, those numbers add up to 106 :)

My first impression was piston wrist pin but the dimensions are too small. Looks more like the starter idler gear pin behind the alternator cover. Don't forget the thrust washer behind the gear.

That's about the only thing I can think of also.

Tim...... Did you find the thin, hard, large OD washer that goes with that shaft? if often gets stuck to the starter spur gear and then disappears in a cleaning tank. Running without it causes lots of issues.....

Don’t ask how I know.

And if I'm not wrong its not silver but kind of a blue tone color.

Correct. Very hard steel.
