Have any of you run into a decent electrical tape that lasts and doesn't turn into a sticky mess.  Trying to touch up my loom.

There is a stretchy tape that sells at most hardware stores here. It does not have adhesive on the back. You pull it tight (stretching it a bit) and it clinches down on itself. It’s suppose to be for emergency repairs to domestic drains and waterlines. I’ve used it for repairing looms (short repairs) with success. It’s easy to have a tight start, but the end is tough to get to stay put. Last time I used a dab of contact cement and wrapped a zip tie around it, overnight. Still looks great!

P.S. not sure what the stuff is called, and not cheap. Maybe some one else will pipe in.

I do not recommend self-amalgamating tape (tape that sticks to itself) for wire harness use.  Over time it's bond becomes stronger, and the only way to remove it is to cut it with scissors or a knife.  This risks damaging the wires.

For small repairs 3M Super 33+ works well.  For larger repairs, or to build new harnesses it's best to use dedicated harness tape.  This is like electrical tape without glue.  It is meant to be installed in a spiral, with good overlap.  Each end should be secured with electrical tape and a small zip tie.

Not positive, but I think it can be found at Home Depot.

3M 33+ seems to be a must have for harness repair, especially were it is visible.

Nashua tape. I fixed a radiator with it in Denver and it took us all the way to Tombstone than Grand Canyon and back to Virginia. July 2017.  Amazing stuff.

Over the last ~50 years, I have found that electricians tape, not electrical tape, to be the best for bike and automotive wiring harnesses.  Electricians tape is cloth impregnated with a tar like compound.  It lasts and it is why wiring manufactures of harness use it for wiring harnesses.  It does not get "gooey" like vinal tape does.  I think it is also known as electrical friction tape.  This is the stuff you find in house wiring of the 50's and on.  60 years later you can unwind it, although it may be stiff.  Vinyl electrical tape is garbage.

It has separation foil. Nashua is the company, check the Home Depot in the duct section.

"Nashua tape" must be a kind of self vulcanizing rubber tape, right?
Found Stretch & Seal Self fusing when searching.

I have used self vulcanizing tape. It does not cope with oil, fuel, degreaser and similar. Turns into a soft slimy chewing gum.

Is the Nashua brand better in this matter?
