And just to be sure put a nice fan on the motor during sync so you don't overheat.

Very important. A quick sync might take longer time than expected.
I use a table fan placed on the floor.
I let it continue to blow another 5-10 minutes after sync is done and engine off.

[...] but also (they claim) you can identify issues with valves  [..]
Any old style manometer does this, if you know how to 'read' it.
No doubt I'm fan of old-school tools (as already mentioned RPM meter, voltmeter etc), but sometime modern tool is good too  ;)
Same here. When testing dynamically, I prefer analogue voltmeter, dwellmeter, tacho and EGA over digital anytime.

[...] but works even better when the tubes are restricted with some old pilot jets to buffer the readings. [...]
Did some experimenting with the plastic containers Yuasa used to send the acid in (not anymore, at least not in Europe). They proved the perfect dampeners in between the manifold exit and the manometer. The containers shrunk in the process but gave a very stable reading. And... Yuasa even supplied a tube!

Drugsgsm, that center tube on yours intrigues me. Can you shed a light on that? BTW, what's the blue fluid? Startron? Blue Curaçao?

I like my Digi Sync digital carb sync gauge. Will never go back to the gauges after trying this tool. Don't have to calibrate or mess with restrictors. This tool just does all that work for you digitally!

I can't recommend the DigiSync.... could never get it to work.  They initially responded to my queries, and it was clear to me the unit was defective.  Refused to talk to me after that.  I used a Morgan Carbtune for years, until I found a used Techmate.  They are very expensive but just plain awesome to use.

Sorry, but this screams shill. Two posts, both on old threads about carb syncing.

4 analog gauges with some dampers on the hoses
Simple, effective, not too expensive.
We have to remember that this is all they had back then and they got great results with it. I like constant improvement and I usually go for constant improvement but a hammer is still useful.

Well said! We don't need no stinking gadgets.
