Trying to undo cafe racer seat mod
« on: March 10, 2023, 06:26:56 PM »
Hi everyone.  I have a dream to bring my 71 CB500 back from the previous owner’s attempt at a cafe racer. The biggest issue I have is that he ground off all the frame tabs/attaching points for securing the original seat to the frame. I can’t seem to find a good reference for what I need to fab to make it work. I think if I had some good reference photos and some precise measurements of what is missing and where it attaches I could fab it up. Also would welcome any other ideas. (You will also see in the pics that he chopped the back of the frame as well, but fixing that is straightforward)
Everything else for the bike just requires tools and patience. This community seems great!  I already made a contribution to keep it running. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would suggest to try to find a cheap frame local(probably someone like me that has a few hanging around, like I have of 750 frames)to you to use as a donor frame for the parts and accurate measurements, maybe cut off forward of the hinges and lock mount backwards to include the hump and fender mounts if you want/need to keep the frame numbers.

That is ultimately what would be the best and easiest fix. I’ve been keeping my eyes open.  I’m thinking they are usually lying around someone’s shop or barn and one has to stumble upon it instead of finding it for sale. I may put a wanted ad in the forum classifieds.
