Zumo 550 GPS question...?
« on: March 11, 2007, 12:52:58 PM »
Has anyone bought the Garmin Zumo 550 GPS?  Comments?  Especially
if you have successfully mated the Bluetooth with a helmet.

It seems a lot of people are waiting for a good Bluetooth helmet....at a reasonable
price.....and that has two speakers for stereo.  The Zumo has a built in MP3
player, but it only works in mono with the Bluetooth.

I'm hoping to balance the need to preserve hearing outside the helmet with
the capability for "music on the road"....plus it will connect with a cellphone.
At least you can hear it ring and pull over to talk.  ::)

Here is a link to the Garmin page that describes it.....

Before you try to get "stereo" sound in your helmet, check to see if it's not illegal first.  May save you an expensive ticket if you get pulled over.  In most states, only one headphone is allowed.  People caught driving with headphones in Illinois is an instant ticket.  Just a heads-up.

:o Thanks for the heads up.  I wonder if the laws only apply to "in the ear"
earbud type things as opposed to helmet mounted speakers that allow outside
sounds to be heard?

I will have to research this....

edit: here is a link to the Illinois law reqarding speakers in helmets....other states on site too.
