Topic: Front Sprocket Oil Seal

Just curious to know if anyone has ever had a very small indent while installing their front sprocket oil seal and left it, and ran the bike and what the result was? Did it leak or no?

I did the best I could to be careful but after getting it in there I noticed an ever so small indent on the right hand side of the seal.

Should I buy another one and try again or should it be okay?

That should be the metal collar under there. Almost looks like you used a drift/punch. I would think if the collar wasn't pierced it would be fine. Can you take a larger needle (a fly tying bodkin is what came to mind) and see if that's just a dent or an actual hole?

Whatever you decide, DON'T buy another one: I have about a dozen of them from past seal sets, leftovers. Most are for the post-1975 engines.

It's just a small dent. What I did was put a roll of electrical tape on the spline (fit perfectly) then put a 37mm socket against that and tapped it in. No taps/drifts nor anything sharp. I learned my lesson awhile back.
