Can't split cases on CB350F
« on: May 04, 2023, 02:01:55 PM »
This is the current state she is in. I've never split cases before, but it just won't budge.

I don't know what I'm missing, there is nothing I can see that is keeping the cases together.

Would really appreciate some advice on this last leg of the journey. It has been a year of drilling down to this point, lol

The cases have probably been together for not far off 50 years, they aren't going to want to part that easily. I can't remember on the 350/4's but is there a hidden bolt somewhere underneath?
Trust me I'm a Nurse, I promise it won't hurt....much

I had a hard time with mine recently but it had a sealant on the cases that was oozing from them
yours is way cleaner than mine
i cant remember missing any bolts but it was just sealed pretty good
when they did split I still had a heck of a time getting them to split form the cam tensioner hook

The old saying goes "there's always one more bolt" but I don't see it either. If you can get a corner to start coming open, the angle it opens may provide a clue.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

I recently had the same problem on my last build. Carefully use a razor blade or thin putty knife and gently tap it into the seam. Go around the engine and it will eventually pop loose.

Good luck.

You MUST first remove the Primary sprocket and the shaft. The primary chain is holding the two cases together.
The 500/550/400F are all like that, too.

Pull out the primary shaft and keep track of the spacers on the shaft as you do: they can be put in backward on reassembly!
