Top triple clamp cracks
« on: March 26, 2023, 07:42:28 AM »
1976 cb 750 f I was reading about the vulnerability of the cb 750 upper triple clamps and how they crack around the fork tube opening pinch points. Is there any tips on how to prevent this? I went out and checked mine out no cracks, but noticed that there wasn’t any washer in between the pinch points where the fork tube slides in at the top?? Should I place a washer or shine in the pinch point?

i was told some of the later year 750s stopped using the D rings altogether, is this one of those models? otherwise,  just make sure u always have D rings in place before you begin tightening.

D rings are a must. Either get some or make some.

Not every cb came with the washers but yours did.  I stopped tightening the early top triples until they are squeezed tightly together, a D washer, a snug fit and a little blue Loctite keeps mine together. Someone was selling reproduction D washers a while back in the for sale section.

It appears you should have them,

Welcome to the forum. I have the "D" washers in stainless which many of the guys on the board have bought. PM me if you need a couple. Price is $9 for 2 including shipping in the USA.

The 76 did not come with the D shaped spacers.

The parts fische says they do have them, but only up to frame number 2009780 so I guess you need to compare your frame number.
My link keeps going to models with no year, that's a partzilla thing, but look up the bike by model and year you will see it.  Part #14 and the note up to frame#

Thanks all I grinded  down some slugs this afternoon. Little shy of a mm. I measured my gap and used that as a template
