CB550K1 shift drum stopper
« on: March 25, 2023, 03:14:29 PM »
Inspecting gear change mechanism (to fix my old up-shifting issue http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,180424.msg2091647.html#msg2091647) and found weird free play on that steel wheel.

Some play itself would not surprise me, but strange to me is that amount of play depends direction of movement - looks to me as wheel has developed "eliptic" hole shape? See video : https://youtube.com/shorts/Y626xFgk51w?feature=share

To make it simple - if somebody has experience, is that OK or shall I replace that arm with steel wheel (Honda calls it shift drum stopper)?
Not sure if this could cause my up-shifting issue, but..

The direction of the greatest wear appears to be the direction the force is applied in operation, so the wear pattern may be normal.

had similar issue with my 550 and with that particular spot
it had a slip from 2 to 3 upshift each time
I had a video of the culprit being that wheel
when it would go to upshift the wheel wouldnt roll up to 3rd shift groove and my bike would do a rev check (people staring etc.)
I have another 550 that shifted without this problem, switched the wheel and also the shaft that goes through the engine to the foot lever and my upshift problem was gone.
dont know if it was both of these but it was more likely the wheel shift stop

Thanks for feedback - this gives me hope that by replacing that stopper issue might be fixed

it seems like the same issue.
im not near either of my 550's to check that specific part but I would think that should be fitted and not have any slop.
kinda like how the cam shaft rockers would wear down from the rotating of the shaft making them oval/ loose
