Rear Axle Torque When HM 300 Installed
« on: March 30, 2023, 12:53:31 PM »
I see that the rear wheel can be removed without removing exhaust by removing the blocks from the back of the swingarm. My question is how do people torque the axle nut when reinstalling, since you cannot approach it with a socket?

I can tighten it with an open ended wrench, but I would just be guessing on the torque.

Yah, it would be overkill to remove the exhaust for that. I suppose you could swing them out of the way if you were going to lose sleep over it. If you are an experienced mechanic just tighten to the best of your mechanical ability. That's what I always do when replacing tires. You got the cotter pin in there so just give it a good turn with a long wrench and install that cotter and ride. Good luck with it.

I never 'torqued ' the axle nut. Just tight enough and always used the axle wrench from the tool kit or a 12" adjustable wrench.

I have always used a torque wrench. I can do it by feel though. I was just wondering if others thought this was a good idea. Sounds like people are doing it.

Installing the rivet link on my new X ring chain, that will be another story. We will see if that's possible. The chain is very blocked off, unless I'm going to rivet on the portion riding at the back of the sprocket.

I use this, think it is 26mm.
The nut has steps where circlip will enter the hole.
