350F Carburettor Float Chamber (Fuel Bowl) Finish
« on: March 29, 2023, 05:03:18 PM »
Learned scholars, looking for advice on how the factory finished the carburettor float chambers (fuel bowls) on the 350F. In the photos attached showing one of my float chambers, it appears that this float chamberl has been polished and then coated with a clear coat. I am trying to ascertain if this is indeed a factory finish or a later incarnation by a PO.

I'm not completely sure but I think they were bare alloy that would age to a grey colour. I have polished some to mirror bright and without a clearcoat they go to that grey colour in a year or two.

The float bowl in your top photo looks odd, like it's been repaired or something growing on it?
I think they were lightly polished and cleared.

I own a number of these bikes and the CB400F and the factory finish on mine was not polished and no clear on the bowls. The top caps were polished and cleared from my best recollection.

They were likely more polished, or at least a shinier finish than what 50+ years of age has done to them now. Strip and clean if your looking for a nicer finish, and if you do clear them use a 2K clearcoat, or it too will start to come off the bowl.
