Took a bit to find the parts KAWASAKI A1SS 1968
« on: August 16, 2025, 12:16:22 PM »
Let's start on the project from the beginning
Been looking for a small bike to compete in the Moto-Giro in Nakusp BC Canada
My friend Doug had a lead on a KAWASAKI A7SS he was told. the bike is to big for the Giro  .Turned out to be a A1SS 250 CC perfect for the race and I got very excited when I seen the serial number A1-650XX 1968 year
at that time I was suppose to resurrect the bike for him and he would have a nice resurrected bike to ride and some fun
so we where talking about the bike show and barn find on the way to get the bike in March

We pick up the bike in Ponoka AB and we bring it to my shop in a enclosed trailer because we wanted to display the bike in the bike show in April and needed it to look like a barn find bike for the display
and it was a success in the show .Mouse nest and bird #$%* mouse piss you name it had it all and spiderweb all over

Then we sat down after the bike show. and got the list going for parts needed and $$$$$ figures started to accumulate quickly and his enthusiasm started to decline raptly .Then his wife called me and asked me if wanted to buy the bike from Doug
Well my dream came thru and I bought the bike
Its now completely resurrected and looking very good with the paint patina for a resurrection
lots of NOS parts and lots of powder coat and all hardware. nut's and bolt's re-plated and more the I can list here

Here is a bit of pictures of the bike from the start to finish

Hi
That's nice looking bike you have
I been riding mine the last couple days and it's running good and smoking like it should LOL
power seams to be good and starting is good .First kick hot or cold
now i have to get use to RPM .need's to be over 4000 rpm to do any thing and hit the 6000+ rpm and then it takes off like a s stroke on steroid's
See how it does in the race (constellation timed run)up the hill on closed circuit

They are great bikes and a bit unusual . It was the first bike I bought at 17 , first bike I raced and the first one I traveled abroad on . I sold that one and always regretted it , found this one by accident 35 years ago when I went to buy a van and came home with it instead .
Good luck in your race , you need to keep it over 8000 if you want to go fast though !
