Agreed, don't take any chances with the exhaust, I'm not sure you could ever find another stock one.

Johnie,I would prep the exhaust with a small HD SS welder's wire brush, the type that looks a little like a toothbrush-size;it will prep the surfaces for paint very well. I like the plastic,blue-handled Wedco brand myself.

With temps in WI in the 80’s this week I pushed ahead and got the exhaust and headers painted with VHT. Thank goodness for the swing set😀

At first glance I thought it was yard art, like the cowboy silhouette's one see here in the Midwest.  I much prefer this type yard art.  :D

Keep up the great work Johnie.

Muffler looks great! Same weather here today. Got the bush hog out and cut some new trails for my grandson and his dirt bike.

Thanks guys. Next is to get the muffler back on the bike along with the center and side stands. Then I will bleed the back brakes and install the front master and bleed those. Then to the wiring, clean the gas tank (electrolysis). Carbs won't be ready until spring, but this is a winter project anyway. More as I progress and thanks for the encouragement.

Picked up my chrome today. The exhaust and carb guards turned out really nice. Been using a local chromer for 20+ years now.

Those look great Johnie. Too bad you had to go that route rather than the ones Alan was supposed to send you that I had discovered near Alan.

We tried to work it out for over a month, but Alan said his work schedule and OT was keeping him from getting them into the mail. So I told him to keep the stuff and I would get my originals chromed. Thanks Raff for all your help in finding someone to pick the stuff up. Just couldn't get the job done.

Got the painted headers, mufflers, center and side stands back on along with the battery box and newly chromed muffler guards. Since I don’t plan to get it running until next summer would you recommend putting the brake fluid back in and bleeding front and back or wait? Both masters and all calipers were rebuilt.

Those pipes and the fresh chrome look stunning!

As long as you put some fluid on the seals during assembly, leave it for next year. Assuming you then use a freshly opened tin of brake fluid, you’ll be six month further ahead. Only concern is if the seals go dry and someone pulls and pushes lever/pedal…. Dry seal might get damaged…… you could always put a bit of fluid in each reservoir and pump enough o make sure very thing is wet and bleed in the spring.

I used Wagner brake assembly lube on all the seals and pistons.

Thanks for the feedback guys. As winter gets closer I will be working on the cut wires for the left switches and installing a new right switch. Carbs won’t be ready until spring. Will also try electrolysis on the gas tank. Never did that before and want to check it out.

Electrolysis works great and you can do it in place without removing the tank. I used a wet/dry vac to suck out the water mix through the float hole on the wing tanks.

just be sure to have some ventilation when doing the tank, that's hydrogen that gasses off.
