Will be doing that this week Bill. Our 45th wedding anniversary was Sunday so we have all the kids and grandkids here. They're staying over night. If I go into the shop while they're here my wife is not very happy with me (which I did yesterday to get the pump on). I promised my wife I'd take them to the local zoo today so now she's talking to me again...LOL The grandkids are 2, 4, 6, 8. So they keep us busy. Plus, the temps are no long upper 90's so I will move the bike outside for the start up.

Johnie…… That was exactly the shop rule around here too. Since my grandson has fallen in love with his Honda CRF230, the rules have totally changed!!

Today (Sunday) was a good day. Got the bike out and gave it the start. Boy did she smoke...I could hardly see out of the garage. I had to burn out some of the Marvel (MMO) in the cylinders. My wife thought I started on fire...LOL. I took a video, but I think to long to put here. I put up some pics of the bike and the mice stuff that came out of the exhaust. I did shake the heck out of the exhaust and used a vacuum before I painted it, but this fur type stuff was to light. I went 90 miles and she ran so good which it should with 15,500 miles on it. Shifting was super smooth as was accelerating. I was surprised how smooth the bike handles on the corners and is very comfortable. And I hadn't even done the sync yet. So when I got home I had to see where the sync was and as expected it was off (see pic) and I was surprised it ran that good. Got the Morgan out and did a good sync and took it for another ride. All is good and I really like this GL. No leaks of any kind and very happy with the end result. Thanks for all the help and tech support guys...you're my hero's!

Thank you all for the comments. I do have a question. I left the blinker buzzer in the box from the PO. I just don't like the buzzing at a stop light. My blinkers work normal until I move the switch into the "lock" position. If I move the blinker switch and hold it prior to the "lock" it works normal. If I go into that "lock" position there is no blinking. Thoughts?

Only 15,500 on the bike, but I guess it could happen. I'll open it up and give it some contact cleaner and take a look.

Any of you GL guys know where I can get the wrap around guards to protect the timing and valve covers? I looked at NGW, Goldwingparts.com, Feebay, Saber Cycle, GWdocs.com and no luck. I don't want the ones we find on the 750's all the time. The sleek tubes I see on a lot of these bikes. Gosh you tip one of these over even in the driveway and I think you'll have damage. Do any of the other early GL's fit like 1100, 1200, etc? Thx...

I only had the GL1100 so can't confirm fit to 1000, but I know that an 1100 motor will fit right in to the bolts(just the rear bar behind the motor has to get removed) so the 1100 bars most likely will fit.

Looking for pics online at the GL1000 and there certainly isn't many with a crash bar.

There were a couple of aftermarket companies making the guards for the 1000 back in the day, but long discontinued now.
